About this PDF
Human reproduction is a biological process through which human beings produce offspring. It involves the reproductive systems of both males and females. In humans, reproduction takes place through sexual reproduction, in which the male gamete (sperm) fuses with the female gamete (ovum) to form a zygote. The male reproductive system consists of organs such as the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, urethra, and penis. The testes produce sperm and the male sex hormone testosterone. The female reproductive system includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina. The ovaries produce ova and female sex hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. During reproduction, sperm reaches the female reproductive tract and may fuse with an ovum in the fallopian tube. This process is called fertilization. The resulting zygote undergoes repeated cell divisions and develops into an embryo. The embryo gets implanted in the uterus, where it continues to grow and develop. The placenta provides nutrients and oxygen to the developing embryo and removes waste products. Pregnancy generally lasts about nine months, after which childbirth occurs. Human reproduction is an important process for the continuation of the human species.
