About this PDF

At 2:17 a.m., emergency dispatcher Mara Voss takes a call from a woman who says she has just killed her husband. The caller is Mara. It’s her voice, her nervous laugh and her full name, calling from her own home address. But her husband Daniel is asleep upstairs, alive. When Mara traces the call, it leads to a disconnected phone line at the house where her younger sister died in a fire eleven years ago. Then the voice starts predicting things that come true, inside her own home. And the recordings keep coming, each one closer to a secret Mara has spent eleven years making sure no one would ever hear. Someone knows what really happened that night. Someone wants Mara to say it out loud. And the most frightening possibility isn’t that the voice is lying. It’s that it might be telling the truth. The Second Voice is a complete psychological thriller novella of about 38,000 words (roughly 140 pages) in 16 chapters. It’s for readers who love unreliable narrators, marriages built on secrets, unsettling technology and twists you can find the clues for if you look back. Contains: domestic violence, a house fire and death, and psychological manipulation.
